What is number portability?

Number portability is the process through which a business transfers its existing phone numbers to a new provider while keeping those numbers unchanged. It is a subscriber right under the EETT regulatory framework and does not depend on the consent of the provider you are leaving.

In practice, your business contact details remain unchanged. There is no need to update customers, print materials, signage, listings or advertising materials.

Which numbers can be transferred to a VoIP provider?

Number portability can be used by both small and medium-sized businesses and organisations with larger and more complex telecommunications requirements. For example, a business with telephony across multiple locations can organise its migration to a new telephony infrastructure while retaining the existing numbers of its locations.

Step by step

The number portability process step by step

1. Assessment

We record your numbers, the current provider and the connection type, and confirm that all numbers can be transferred.

2. Portability request

modulus prepares and submits the request. You do not need to contact your previous provider.

3. Configuration

We activate your VoIP service or cloud PBX in parallel with your existing line, so that it is ready before the transfer.

4. Transfer

Number portability is activated within a predefined window so that your business is not left without telephone service.

5. Confirmation

We test incoming and outgoing calls for each number before closing the request.

Number portability cost

The one-time portability cost with modulus is €15 per number, including VAT and the fixed telephony fee, in addition to the annual fee of the service that will be activated. The cost is the same regardless of the number type and the previous provider.

There is no monthly charge for number portability and no return fee: the numbers remain yours and you can transfer them to another provider through the same process.

What happens to your line during the transfer?

The new service is activated and tested in parallel with your existing line. Your existing line remains active until the final transfer, so that there is no interruption to incoming calls. The transfer is completed within a predefined window agreed with you.

Number portability and EETT, subscriber rights

Number portability is regulated by EETT and is an obligation for every licensed electronic communications provider in Greece. modulus S.A. is a licensed provider, registered in the EETT Providers Registry, with its own numbering resources.

If you work with a reseller that does not hold its own licence, your business is not covered by the relevant number portability obligations.
